Welcome.

I am a young Scottish artist who is currently completing a BA (Hons.) degree in design at Edinburgh College of Art specialising in Architectural Glass. Since a young age I have always had a strong interest in art and design and although practicing mainly fine art before college, I chose a degree in glass because I enjoy the making processes involved in it. I find stained glass a hugely exciting medium to work with as I feel that it bridges the gap between fine art and design and is therefore very versatile.

My artwork has always been very bold and abstract in style, which is something that translates well into glass. I am interested in the characteristics of such things as woodblock printing and graffiti art as I believe that these mediums contain a vibrancy and freedom of expression that I wish to show in my own work. I also enjoy using collage techniques in my glass, which allows me to build up layers of colour and texture to create a range of interesting effects.

My current work explores the condition of modern civilization, which seems to be constantly hanging in a delicate balance between order and chaos. This issue was inspired initially by the story of Easter Island and the way in which the natives desire for progress combined with an ignorant attitude towards natural resources ultimately led to the downfall of a great civilization. This example is often used as a metaphor for the fragility of the earth as a whole as it demonstrates how over exploitation of resources can result in disaster.
